Summary[]
"When Frogerina tells the babies her ballet class is performing "Swan Lake", a jealous Sputnik claims she has a ballet of her own: "Sputnik's Lake", which she will put on herself (with the help of the babies). As Frogerina starts practicing across the street , Sputnik leads the babies in their "ballet lessons" by attempting to copy everything she does. Can Sputnik put on a show to impress all the kids in the neighborhood, or will "Sputnik's Lake" be a big embarrassment?" - Description from Sprout.
Plot[]
Halley and Radar, Jet, Comet and Venus, and Sputnik are all playing in the front yard of Halley's house while Matthew and Matt are fixing the roof of the house. Randall and Frogerina drive into the driveway of their home across the street from Matthew, Halley and Radar's, and Randall offers to help Matthew and Matt fix the roof. Sputnik and the babies notice that Frogerina's wearing an outfit just like the one Sputnik's Cynthia doll is wearing (they're both wearing ballerina outfits). Frogerina explains that she had just gotten back from her ballet class, and that they're practicing for their upcoming dance recital, which is going to be Swan Lake.
The babies get excited and ask Frogerina if they can come, and Frogerina asks Sputnik if she would like to come to the recital as well. Sputnik lies and says she's too busy practicing for her own upcoming ballet recital. Frogerina doesn't believe her, and Sputnik tells her that Halley, Jet, Radar, and the twins are going to be in her ballet (after Frogerina points out that an actual ballet has more than one person in it), called "Sputnik's Lake," claiming it to be the "firstest ballet with babies." Frogerina still doesn't believe Sputnik, and then asks if she can invite all the kids from their neighborhood to Sputnik's ballet. Sputnik's obviously uncomfortable with that, but tells Frogerina she can. Randall then takes Frogerina home so he can change into some different clothes to help Matthew and Matt fix the roof of Matthew's house.
Sputnik tries her hand at teaching the babies how to dance, but has trouble with it since she doesn't really know anything about dancing other than kicks (which doesn't exactly count as dancing). After Sputnik sees Frogerina practicing for her ballet recital with her boombox in the front yard of her house, Sputnik decides to copy her ballet positions, which she and the babies also have trouble with. Jet's dad, Robert, eventually comes over to take Jet home, but he ends up helping Matthew, Matt and Randall with fixing the roof of Matthew's house. Meanwhile, Sputnik decides the babies have learned enough "dance" moves, and decides that they need a stage, costumes and music for her ballet (the babies also forget how to dance). Sputnik uses a box of Halloween costumes for their ballet costumes---Comet's dressed as a cow, Venus wears a wig and plays the girl who feeds the cow, Halley's dressed as a doctor, Radar plays a tree since he's too little to dance, and Jet wears a ballerina costume, even though he's a boy.
Soon, a bunch of kids from their neighborhood come by to see Sputnik's ballet. Sputnik uses her Cynthia workout tape for the music (which she thinks is better than the music Frogerina uses for ballet) and uses a bucket of water for the lake. The ballet doesn't go as Sputnik planned, but surprisingly, all the kids, including Frogerina, enjoyed it. Frogerina asks Sputnik to make a ballet for her, which Sputnik (somewhat reluctantly) agrees to. Meanwhile, the fathers of the babies (with the exception of Comet and Venus' dad), determine that Matthew's roof is fine, but then it starts raining. Most of the kids are still in the backyard, but they end up dancing in the rain to Sputnik's Cynthia workout tape.
Trivia[]
- This episode reveals that both Sputnik and Frogerina have taken ballet lessons---Frogerina's still taking lessons but Sputnik doesn't anymore.
- Sputnik claims that she "graduated" from her ballet class after only two lessons. In reality, she was kicked out for being terrible at ballet, and kicking down and being overall a host and rude nuisance to the other students. Also, because of this, Frogerina is aware that Sputnik was actually making up a false story about graduating from ballet class.
- Frogerina's ballet teacher is a woman named Miss Dresina---it's possible that she may be from Russia or she's of Russian descent.
- It should be noted that ballet dancing become more developed in France and Russia (mainly France) after first originating in Italy during the time of the Renaissance.
- The song Cynthia Work Out was also heard during the credits.
